I first started loving filmmaking when my father took me to my first set, that I can remember, because apparently my first birthday party was at a set. But back to the point, the purpose of these posts is not to convince peolple to like filmmaking but to inspire the young into being creative. No matter what it is being able to express yourself in some form of art is way more important. Even school (sorry mrmayo), in school you learn the baby steps for being a creative, inspired, independant person. For instance if you learning about rocks in science, you may think at the start this stinks, this is boring but learning about these elements of the earth may inspire you to become a hippy treehugger. But what ever you do its important to be creative. For me it was the early exposure and like everyother kid in the world “I wanted to like my DAD”.

I have never completed a film on my own, I try but can’t, lose interest way to fast when trying to be creative. But when you have an I dea build and build and build forever until your ready to make it make sense. Take the Idea you have had in your head and cut in down to a simple easy to explain story line. Then write it get you idea on paper before you decide to change your mind. Another thing that helps is working in groups, working in groups keeps crazy ideas to a minimun, its like you were trying to pitch a crazy impossible movie to Universal. What would they do? Most likely throw you out of the studio. But if you came to a simple possible and interesting idea then maybe the’ll give you the GREENLIGHT.	After you have your simple idea develop a script, get it perfect then your done. You have a movie. Wait … You want a movie not a script right … Oh … ughhh… o…kay…fine…Then you start planning, picking people who will help you, act, crew, people for critiscism, start schedeuling, pick places to shoot and then after this your ready for production. This whole process is called preproduction, I divide filmmaking in to three different arts. Preproduction the art of managing and getting a full Idea(on paper). This is preproduction.

What I Love About Filmmaking

Filmmaking is an art form that can be abstract, realistic or just experimental. Films that arte abstract tend to be Phsycadelic or weird stuff. And realistic films are all the real films that you see in the theaters, movies with some possibility. For instance would you see a movie of a guy talking about global warming and on the screen colors move in different motions, in theaters or Iron Man the story of Tony Stark? Ask your self this. Experimental movies tend to be abstract movies.

I recently just finished two movies of my own, one about 10 minutes and the other for school about 5. Making movies is like making a painting. When you’re done you get that feeling of total joy inside you. Especially when you work with a group and the end result is your movie , knowing that you were a part of that.

The other two more parts that are most important are the director (and his vision) and the cast and crew. The director can be the biggest loser ever but have an amazing image or vision. What he or she sees the movie looking like, it can very from the camera having a green filter or the sun being two more inches to the left. Thats why its a very important that the producer picks the director perfectly. Without a perfect vision what vision does the director have at all. Also for a film to be perfect in the eyes of the director, producer, Crew, actors and audience the crew has to be good. Good, not in the sense of what they do, but how they act and feel. If a Location Manager comes every day and complains about how the producers are idiots who don’t know what they’re doing then the location manager is going to be misreable. The only solution is for the crew to be respected. If they do their job right let them be. If the want play practical jokes on the teamsters or paint their car green while filming.	There are few cases that Iv’e heard that are like this one. But its possible, Part three coming out next Friday.

Most people don’t know what happens behind the camera, or how many jobs there are. Filmaking is an unknown way of life, a film takes a very long time to make. Most people think little about what it takes to make that 2 hour reel of film. All they see is the picture on the silver screen. But there are few who know and work on films, where crews can be like families or like cliques in high school. But I love movies and enjoy film sets and think the world doesn’t apreciate the picture as much as they should.
I will tell you I n my eye’s what happens whats important and what to ignore. There are three parts of a film the Script. The script is one of the most important aspects of a film, without it what film would there be, NONE. Because of this script has to under go critisicm and editing but hopefully the original idea will not change. If the actor doesn’t support the script he/she can call for a rewrite. In a case recently Brad pitt (in support of the writers strike) requested a rewrite during the writers strike. SO he got canned and then came Russel Crow.
